Vale values Malaysian Indian Veterans during Deepavali

Vale in Malaysia provided RM30,000 worth of Deepavali assistance to 200 veteran families in Manjung today.

The initiative, held in partnership with Persatuan Veteran India Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (PERIM)¹ came in the form of festive food packages², designed to assist the families’ preparation for the upcoming Deepavali celebration.

Leonardo Paiva, CEO of Vale in Malaysia said that the contribution is in line with Vale’s larger commitment to support the socioeconomic development of various communities living within the Manjung district, close to the company’s operations at Teluk Rubiah. “The assistance is formulated to be in line with our larger commitment to support an inclusive community development in Manjung”.

“We are thankful for the guidance given by PERIM in helping us identify the most suitable means to assist these 200 families during the period. While our social investment strategy generally focuses on long-term continuity, we also see the value of providing quick assistance to alleviate the challenges faced by various socioeconomically vulnerable communities in a way that is focused and effective”.

The distribution of the Deepavali assistance is a part of the larger RM2.0-million ‘Vale Bersama Manjung’ programme that began during the earlier days of the pandemic in 2020. The involvement of the veterans’ association in the programme this year provides an added significance for Vale, which is committed to a long-term sustainable presence in Malaysia.

“We value the contributions that these veterans have made in preserving Malaysia’s peace and national sovereignty, facilitating the nation’s inspiring journey of delivering meaningful prosperity to its citizens. In conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration, we sincerely thank these veterans for their sacrifices,” Leonardo concluded.
