Dedication to Freedom of Association

The existence of labor unions is very important as partners in implementing workers' rights and interests through negotiating collective labor agreements, ensuring wages and benefits are in accordance with statutory provisions, and working together with employers to create conducive, comfortable, and safe working conditions. In addition, labor unions are also involved in advocacy to resolve industrial relations disputes. By representing workers in balancing employment dynamics with employers, unions contribute to workplace democracy, social and economic mobility, and overall worker well-being.

PT Vale Indonesia respects the freedom of association of its employees. This is proven through cooperation with the following unions:

  • Federation of Indonesian Labor Struggle Unions (FSPBI);

  • Management of the Indonesian Prosperous Labor Union (PK SBSI) Commissariat;

  • Vale Indonesia Staff Union (SSVI);

  • Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI);

  • Federation of Mining and Energy Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (FPE-KSBSI);

  • Federation of Chemical, Energy and Mining Workers' Unions PT Vale Indonesia Tbk Work Units;

  • Vale Indonesia United Workers Union (SPBVI);

With the existence of these unions, committees were formed in which there were representatives from the union with their respective duties and functions, namely:

  1. Housing committee

Together with the Company, supervise the process and implementation of ownership loan programs and/or housing repairs for non-staff and staff.

  1. Employee Health Insurance Committee

Together with the Company, supervise the health service process Pension Committee.

  1. Pension Committee

Together with the Company, supervise and evaluate the implementation of the pension program to ensure that investment policies and direction are in line with the objectives of the worker's pension program, including being involved in the selection of program managers.

  1. Bank Cooperation

Has the function to discuss about KPR, KPA, and other services or services agreed upon by the bank which are recommended through due diligence.

  1. Scholarship Committee

Has the function of ensuring the scholarship program runs with the agreed terms and conditions.

  • PT Vale employees who are members of these unions reach 87% of the total number of employees.

  • PT Vale also involved labor unions in negotiations on the preparation and signing of the 20th Collective Labor Agreement (PKB). The three unions are the Chemical, Energy, Mining, Oil, Gas and General Workers Union (SPKEP), the United Vale Indonesia Workers Union (SPBVI), and the Mining and Energy Federation, Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (FPE KSBSI). This is a manifestation of PT Vale's commitment to building harmonized industrial relations between management and employees.

  • 8.8 Protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment

  • 16.10 Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements

Principle 3.4 Respect the rights of workers by: not employing child or forced labour; avoiding human trafficking; not assigning hazardous/dangerous work to those under 18; eliminating all forms of harassment and discrimination; respecting freedom of association and collective bargaining; and providing an appropriate mechanism to address workers grievances.
