Sustainable Mining Practices in The Eyes of Journalist

Vale Journalist Writing and Photo Competition (JWPC) is an annual competition for journalists. Starting in 2018, PT Vale appreciates journalists and photojournalists through their brilliant work with the theme "Realizing Sustainable Mining: Innovation for Downstreaming and Decarbonization".
Every year, JWPC welcomes photo and articles. The article competition is divided into three categories:
  • Luwu Raya local print/online category
  • Category print/online Regional Sulawesi (South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi)
  • National print/online category

Theme
"Realizing Sustainable Mining: Innovation for Downstreaming and Decarbonization"

  1. Transformation Through Green Innovation — Exploring technologies that make mining practices more efficient and environmentally friendly.
  2. Voices from the Community: Actions for Change — Investigating the role of local communities in promoting responsible mining practices.
  3.  Policies Toward Sustainability — Analyzing policies supporting clean mining practices and challenges in their implementation.
  4. From Mines to Benefits: Stories of Downstreaming — Highlighting success stories of downstreaming that deliver economic and social benefits.
  5.  Real Impact: Addressing Environmental and Social Challenges — Showcasing sustainable mining practices that improve community welfare.
General Requirements
  1. Participants: Journalists and freelance reporters from national and regional Sulawesi media or international news agencies.
  2. Media Categories: Print and online media published in national and regional Sulawesi areas (South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi).
  3. Registration: Complete the online registration form at the provided link and attach the required documents.
  4. Work Submission: Upload works to Google Drive and include a PDF or link as proof of publication in the registration form. Ensure Google Drive access for the committee.
  5. Required Information:
    • Name, address, email, and contact number.
    • Press card or letter of assignment from the media, along with a valid ID (KTP/SIM/Passport).
    • Media name, publication date, and page number (if applicable).
  6. One Work, One Form: Each form is for one work only. For multiple submissions, use separate forms.
  7. Elimination System: Works that do not meet the requirements will not be evaluated.

Selection and Announcement
  1. Work selection will take place from October to November 2025.
  2. Winners will be announced in December 2025 via vale.com/Indonesia and/or PTVI's official social media accounts.
  3. The decisions of the committee and jury are final and cannot be contested.

  1. Participants: Peserta dibagi dalam empat kategori berdasarkan wilayah operasi dan jangkauan media.:
    • South Sulawesi Region
    • Southeast Sulawesi Region
    • Central Sulawesi Region
    • National
  2. Work Criteria:
    • Must be original, not translated or duplicated, and not submitted in other competitions.
    • Written and published between January 1 and September 30, 2025.
    • Types: straight news, feature articles, or in-depth articles that are timely, informative, and impactful.
    •  Written in Indonesian or English, and published during the specified period.
  3.  Length:
    • Straight News: Online: 300–800 words / Print: 800–1,500 words.
    • Feature Articles: Online: 800–1,200 words / Print: 1,500–2,500 words.
    • In-Depth Articles: Online: 1,500–3,000 words / Print: 2,000–5,000 words.
  4. Evaluation: Eligible works will be judged on creativity, clarity of message, social impact, and relevance to current issues.
  1. Participants: Open to all photojournalists at the national level and from South, Central, and Southeast Sulawesi.
  2. Work Criteria:
    • Submit in JPEG format, 5–10 MB, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
    • Include a photo caption in MS Word, written in Indonesian or English.
    • Must be original, relevant to the theme, and not submitted in other competitions.
    • Digital editing is limited to quality enhancements without altering the authenticity of the photo.
    • Taken and published during the specified period.
  3. Evaluation: Eligible works will be judged on creativity, composition, and visual impact.
