Wellness Wonders: Energizing Health and Safety Pursuits in Local Communities

Commemorating the Occupational Safety and Health Month in Indonesia, PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk (PTVI) has actively advocated for occupational health and safety (OHS) awareness. This commitment aligns with the company's core values, emphasizing that "Life is the most important," and reflects a steadfast dedication to occupational safety and risk management. In the context of the National Occupational Safety Month in 2023, the company acknowledges the importance of expanding safety efforts not only for its workforce but also for the wider community.

Adopting the theme 'Realizing Decent Work with an OHS Culture to Support Business Sustainability in Every Workplace,' PT. Vale Indonesia seizes this opportunity to reflect on its mining activities. The company collaborates with stakeholders to ensure that OHS principles have a positive impact across all operational areas, including those directly affecting the surrounding community of the mine. Actively engaging with the community during the Occupational Health and Safety Month, PT. Vale Indonesia believes that their involvement holds significant value. This inclusive approach is crucial for cultivating a shared understanding of the importance of OHS principles and, consequently, creating a safer environment for both employees and the local community around the mine. This commitment underscores PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk's dedication to sustainable practices, community well-being, and the collective prosperity of all stakeholders involved.
PT Vale Indonesia Tbk initiated several community engagement activities, including:

1. Health Campaign and Fire Danger Management
In January 2023, PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk orchestrated a Health and Fire Hazard Management Campaign initiative in four corporate empowerment zones, namely Malili District, Wasuponda District, Towuti District, and Nuha District. The event attracted families from both employees and contractors,  as well as government representatives and the local community.

The Health Campaign consists of  a range of activities, such as health screening (including examinations for blood sugar, cholesterol, uric acid, and body measurements), followed by a collective exercise session. Doctors from Primaya Inco Hospital Sorowako actively participated, offering guidance on proper exercise techniques and promoting a SMART lifestyle for improved health. This Health Campaign was not only informativebut was also interactive through a Q&A session with participants, complemented by the distribution of door prizes as a gesture of appreciation.

Apart from the health aspect, this activity also includes a fire hazard prevention simulation organized by a team from Fire & Emergency Services (FES) PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk. The simulation includes handling fires in the kitchen using simple tools and a demonstration of the use of a Light Fire Extinguisher (APAR). Through this activity, PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk not only provides practical knowledge and skills to participants, but also contributes significantly to increasing awareness of health and safety in the surrounding community.
2. Driving Safety Campaign (Safety Riding Campaign)
Moreover, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk has spearheaded a Safety Riding Campaign Program targeted at the younger demographic, particularly high school and vocational school students who are novice drivers recently granted driving permits. This initiative extends its reach to five schools within the PT Vale Indonesia empowerment zone, namely SMA Negeri 11 Nuha, SMA Negeri 3 Wowondula, SMA Negeri 5 Wasuponda, SMK Negeri 1 Malili, and SMA YPS Sorowako.

The program is purposefully designed to heighten driving safety awareness and instill secure driving practices among young drivers. Throughout these organized activities, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the safe operation of two-wheeled vehicles, familiarize themselves with traffic regulations and signs, and grasp the potential hazards associated with maneuvering around company vehicles.

Furthermore, interactive discussions have been facilitated, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and fostering a deeper comprehension. PT Vale Indonesia Tbk has arranged door prizes as incentives for students actively engaging in the session by asking questions or offering insightful answers.

The Safety Riding Campaign Program received active participation from five schools spread across four empowerment areas with a total of 880 students participating, with the following distribution:
