    Operation of Electric Boilers to eliminate MFO

    The utilization of Marine Fuel Oil (MFO) in industrial operations carries significant ramifications. It leads to the emission of harmful pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide (SO2) and fine particulate matter, which pose substantial health risks to the public. Additionally, the combustion of MFO releases greenhouse gases (GHGs), thereby exacerbating climate change and global warming concerns. Furthermore, adhering to conventional MFO-based processes results in elevated energy expenses for the company.
    PT Vale Indonesia Tbk stands out as the pioneering mineral mining company in adopting electric boilers, setting itself apart from others in the industry. By making this innovative switch, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk replaces traditional boilers that relied on fossil fuels like MFO and diesel, effectively eliminating their dependence on such non-renewable resources. Now, they exclusively use electric boilers which 100% runs on electricity from hydroelectric power plants aligning with our commitment to a greener and more sustainable approach to operations.
    The program implemented in 2021 yielded significant results, including a reduction in GHG emissions by 19,490 tCO2-e, cost savings amounting to IDR 3,108,655,000, and an energy efficiency improvement of 262,271 GJ.
