Our nickel mining and processing activities generate some waste. In accordance with good mining practices or good mining practices, we are committed to comprehensive and sustainable environmental management.

In waste management, we have implemented the framework of the International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM). Meanwhile, in 2021 we set five environmental commitments to support the achievement of zero carbon emissions, a low carbon agenda, reducing landfill burdens, reducing the intensity of water consumption, transboundary forestation, and biodiversity conservation.

The waste management policy covers B3 waste management, which includes oil, used grease, filters, rags, expired chemicals, used batteries, used batteries, paint, asbestos, and medical waste. Meanwhile, we manage non-B3 waste, including topsoil, overburden, and household waste.

Hazardous and Toxic Waste Management

We have a Hazardous and Toxic Waste Reduction and Utilization Policy. Our commitment to reduce the generation of hazardous and toxic waste or B3 by 50 tons/year and utilize B3 waste by 1,000 tons/year is realized through:

  • Use Kidney Lube and Modular Screening Station to reduce the generation of B3 waste by using hydraulic lubricating oil, rags, batteries, and oil filters.

  • Purchase using Iso Tank to reduce the generation of B3 waste using used drums.

  • Utilization of used oil for HSFO fuel substitution.

The company also has a Non-Hazardous and Non-Toxic Waste Reduction and Utilization Policy. Our commitment is to reduce the generation of non-B3 waste from domestic waste by 300 tons/year and utilize non-B3 waste by 4,100,000 tons/year through:

  • Using ECOTERAKO green aggregate from nickel slag as the material of choice for mine road construction.

  • Road material recycling uses road stabilizer equipment to conserve road materials.

  • Using chipping stone material from the waste reject station as a substitute for top layer crushed stone (LPA) material on logistics roads.
