Vale informs about waste rock piles at Fábrica Nova Mine
Vale informs that there is no immediate risk associated with the waste rock piles at the Fábrica Nova mine in Mariana (MG) and that there is no need to evacuate families. Contrary to what has been reported in some media, the waste rock pile is a landfill structure made of compacted material, different from a dam, and not subject to liquefaction.
It is also important to clarify that the small dike downstream of the piles has a positive stability condition declaration. Vale reiterates that safety is a non-negotiable value and that it complies with all legal obligations. Vale will continue to cooperate with the authorities and provide all information requested.
