Vale reports on the progress of the indemnification process

In a hearing held on Thursday (4/4) at the 6th Public Revenue Court and Autonomous Entities, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Vale agreed that the emergency payments will not be deducted from the individual indemnification sums and will be offset against the compensation for social and economic damages, the latter to be calculated at the end of the process. So far, more than 3,000 people have already received the emergency payments.  It has also been agreed that the affected people will receive support from an independent technical consultancy firm to negotiate their indemnification individually.

Vale is still receiving registrations for the emergency indemnification payments for residents of Brumadinho and municipalities within a 1km radius of the Paraopeba riverbed, from Brumadinho to the city of Pompéu, at the Retiro de Baixo dam. For more information, click here

The measures were agreed with the Attorney's Office of the State of Minas Gerais, the Public Prosecution Office of the State of Minas Gerais, the Public Defender's Office of the State of Minas Gerais, the Federal Attorney's Office, the Federal Public Prosecution Office, and the Federal Public Defender's Office.

Health measures

During the hearing, it was also established that all residents of Brumadinho and affected municipalities along the Paraopeba river, directly or indirectly, who have had contact with the tailings will have laboratory tests, to be carried out by Fundação Ezequiel Dias (Funed). Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) will implement a series of actions, including epidemiological surveillance measures to prevent the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.  The Judiciary also approved an agreement covering water supply for the city of Pará de Minas.  This agreement provides for the drilling of new artesian wells and maintenance of the existing ones, among other actions.
