Vale started paying the emergency indemnification defined in the preliminary agreement signed with the Attorney's Office of the State of Minas Gerais, the Public Prosecution Office of the State of Minas Gerais, the Public Defender's Office of the State of Minas Gerais, the Federal Attorney's Office, the Federal Public Prosecution Office, and the Federal Public Defender's Office. 

In the first stage, the sums will be paid to 800 residents of the neighborhoods of Parque da Cachoeira and Córrego do Feijão - the most affected by the breach of Dam 1 at the Córrego do Feijão mine, in Brumadinho (Minas Gerais -, who delivered their documentation to Vale since 8/3, as set out in a hearing held on 7/3 at the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte. 
 
The other residents of those locations who have not yet registered to receive the emergency indemnification, as well as the registered residents who have been notified of any outstanding issues, must make an appointment to deliver the required documents. Appointment scheduling begins on Monday, 18/03, by phone 0800 888 1182. 
 
Two registration centers start operating next Wednesday, 20/3. The Parque da Cachoeira registration center will be located at Rua Francisco Jorge Diniz, nº 143. In Córrego do Feijão, the registration center will be set up in the Hall next to the sports court. Operating hours are 8:00 to 18:00, from Monday to Saturday. 

  
Required Documents 
  

To receive the indemnification, applicants must fill out a form as agreed in court and submit the following documents: 
 
. Adults: (i) ID; (ii) Social Security Number (CPF); (iii) at least one proof of residence; and (iv) checking or savings account in the applicant's name. 
 
. Minors: (i) ID or birth certificate; (ii) Social Security Number (CPF); (iii) proof of guardianship; and (iv) at least one proof of residence (including proof of enrollment in school). 
 
Proof of residence: 
 
Registration, up to the date of the dam breach, with the following entities: Electoral Court, enrollment in schools or colleges, Cemig, Copasa, healthcare centers, Emater, Municipal and State Agriculture Departments, CRAS and SUAS (Unified Social Welfare System). 
 
Baskets of Staples 
 
In a hearing held on 7/3, Vale was ordered to pay the sum corresponding to one basket of staples for each family of the Córrego do Feijão and Parque da Cachoeira communities, for a period of 12 months. R$405.40 will be deposited monthly in a current account owned by the head of the family. 
 
Other localities 
 
The registration for emergency indemnities for residents of other localities in Brumadinho and municipalities within a 1km radius of the Paraopeba riverbed, from Brumadinho to the city of Pompéu, at the Retiro de Baixo dam, will be defined in a Judiciary hearing next Thursday, 21/3. 
 
About the Preliminary Agreement 
       

Items that make up the preliminary agreement: 
 
. Payment of one minimum wage per adult, 50% of the minimum wage per adolescent, and 25% of the minimum wage per child, for a period of 12 months; 
 
. A basket of staples per family of the Córrego do Feijão and Parque da Cachoeira communities, every month, for 12 months. The corresponding amount of R$405.40 will be deposited monthly in a current account owned by the head of the family. 
 
Who is entitled to the payment: 
 
. Emergency payments apply to every person that resided in the city of Brumadinho or who resided within a 1km radius of the Paraopeba riverbed, from Brumadinho to the city of Pompéu, at the Retiro de Baixo dam, on 25/1/2019.
