Labor Prosecution Office receives Vale's proposal to assist Brumadinho
Vale undertook to provide health insurance for the family members of deceased employees and third-party employees, subject to a registration scheme
Vale reports on the meeting held today with the Labor Prosecution Office (MPT) in Belo Horizonte to discuss the parameters to indemnify the deaths caused by the dam breach at the Córrego do Feijão mine in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais.
The company presented a specific proposal covering the following points:
1. Job and wage guarantee to the staff from the Brumadinho unit: until 12/31/2019.
2. Material damage: seeking immediate agreement, Vale proposed a monthly payment of 2/3 of 1 (one) net monthly salary until the date the deceased worker would have turned 75 years old.
3. Moral damages: For immediate agreement, indemnification to the closest relatives of the deceased workers, as follows:
a. Spouses or partners: R$300,000.00
b. Children: R$300,000.00 each
c. Parents: R$150,000.00 each
d. Siblings: R$75,000.00 each.
In addition, Vale undertook to provide health insurance for the family members of deceased employees and third-party employees, subject to a registration scheme, with coverage throughout the state of Minas Gerais. Widows or partners will receive whole-of-life insurance while dependents will be covered for up to 22 years.
These commitments are separate from the R$100,000.00 donation that is already being paid by Vale.
After meeting with the Labor Prosecution Office and considering that negotiations are underway, Vale hereby makes a public and immediate commitment to provide the following:
a. Item 1 (job or wage guarantee) and health insurance plan.
b. Psychological assistance to workers until discharge.
c. R$ 920.00 in daycare assistance for employees with children up to the age of three.
d. R$ 998.00 in educational assistance for children of employees until they turn 18.
Vale will remain committed to settling amicably all fallouts resulting from the dam breach.
